We got to the Auditorium at 7:45.
The line of 3-4 people deep wrapped around the building;
equaling 3 city blocks! There must have been at least 1,000
people in line. We walked 10 minutes to get to the end of the
seemingly endless line to join in. As we were moving towards
the entrance a stream of people were walking passed us in the
opposite direction; to get to the end of the line!! An
impressive sea of people. Four generations. All well-dressed –
men, women, children – and all very well mannered.
A pleasant excitement was in the
air. No one seemed to mind the long line and
the time it took to get inside. THERE WAS A SMILE ON EVERYONE’S
FACE; YOU COULD SEE THE EAGER ANTICIPATION OF A DELIGHTFUL
PERFORMANCE THEY HAD COME TO SEE.
The Auditorium was almost full. The
concert started at 9:15 as all had not yet taken their seats! I
believe if the doors are opened one hour earlier than what is
the norm, such delays will be avoided. Because, 90% of the
people arrived at the Auditorium long before the promised 8:30
PM.
Mehrdad performed beautifully for
one hour. There was a problem with the sound stage. The base
and the drums were too loud and audience complained they
couldn’t hear him signing.
Mehrdad continued performing
without hesitation and his enthusiasm was contagious. He sang
his hit songs, ignored the fact that the technicians were trying
to balance the sounds of the instruments, during his
performance. The audience appreciated his graciousness and
applauded him for it.
After a 15 minute intermission, the
band played the Talagh overture. The crowd roared with
excitement, the Star entered the stage dancing, and the roar was
deafening!
I WISH YOU COULD ALL BE THERE!
If there is such a thing as being
more perfect, then Googoosh was more perfect than ever!
She wore a beautiful silk gown, a
very light bluish-gray color, covered with pastel green and
silver rhinestones. Very elegant. Her hair was long and
blond. The crowd, on their feet, cheered and applauded with
excitement and she responded with like excitement and laughter.
She sang 10:30 to 12:30, with a ten
minute break to change her outfit. The second outfit was a
beautiful dark grey, meshed with a little black, looked cool and
elegant. A very simple design – reminder of the 60’s summer
dresses. But as is the case with our Googoosh, she makes any
outfit look elegant and perfect!
The temperature on the stage seemed
to be hot. Our Precious Star seemed uncomfortable and the heat
was bothering her. Finally, a little over an hour into her
performance she said: “Daaram too in lebaas khafeh misham!
Miram lebas avaz koham. Jaa-ee nareed haa!!!”
Her performance was delightful. She
danced through the night except when she sang
Ay Mardom Mordam
when she cried and the audience cheered as loud as they could.
Also among the songs were: Otaagh-e Man,
Ahouy-e Eshgh,
Pasho Pasho,
Eid-e Ashegh,
short versions of old favorites such as
Bavar Kon,
Marham,
Gharib-e Ashena,
Kooh,
Do Panjareh
… and of course
MAN AAMADEH AM
WHICH HAD EVERY ONE ON THEIR FEET, DANCING, CLAPPING WATCHING
HER DELIGHTFUL MOVES ON THE STAGE.
As we all know, Googoosh’s rendition of Kavir brings out so much
emotion, did the same this time. At the end of each “Khodaya,
Khodaya ….” The crowd reacted with a roar and applause that
almost brought the roof down!
All through her performance the
audience acted as her chorus! Although this happens in every
one of her concerts, she still seemed surprised and very pleased
that everyone knew the songs!! Her beautiful face lit up with
excitement and with a more beautiful smile she said, “Mashallah
hamatoon khanandeh-een”!
The
last portion of the concert, she asked Mehrdad to join her.
They sang their famous duets: Akharan Khabar,
Khaleej-e Fars
and Nasl-e Maa.
She said can you imagine
Moein
singing Nasl-e
Maa??
Then asked for all the lights to be turned off. We heard
Moein
singing the song without music?!?!It was Mehrdad of course
performing in
Moein’s
style.
Then came time to introduce the band
members which she does with such affection. After each
introduction there was a loud applause, but when she said, “From
Venezuela..” ..
Pedro
received the loudest cheers. He said,
“There is only one
Googoosh in the world”,
AND WE ALL AGREED WITH PLEASURE!
The show ended with everyone
joining Googoosh and Mehrdad in singing
Ey Iran;
followed by hundreds of Red, White and Green balloons together
with shiny silver and gold confetti flowing down on the crowd.
It was very pretty.
And so we spent another fantastic
evening with our Precious Googoosh! My American friend who did
not understand a word of Farsi and the music is no where near
what she is used to, loved the performance. She said,
“Oh. I am so happy I
got to see Googoosh live on stage. So beautiful, so
delightful. A complete package of artistic talents and
extraordinary personality”!!!
Now that sums it all up!!!
